It never really occurred to me how important it was to have a space for myself until I no longer truly had one. Everyone needs a place to unwind. The only requirement for this area is that is must be a place where you can turn off your mind. Where you can enjoy some peaceful vibes. This space is a NO WORK ZONE. NO BULLSHIT ZONE. NO NEGATIVITY ZONE.
Ever since about three weeks ago I never had a home studio. I had to commute to get to my studio every day, and this often meant bringing home miscellaneous work to complete. My bedroom was no longer just a bedroom, but also a studio/office. This put a real damper on my space. My room has always been my little oasis. I have my crystals, plants, books and TV all in the same area. What more could you ask for? But, this doesn’t matter when you’re constantly working in your bedroom. My mind simply couldn’t turn off. I felt anxious in the one place I was supposed to feel Zen. I couldn’t change much about my situation, because I had roommates and limited space to create a place for myself. I couldn’t work in the living room because trying to move all my jewelry nonsense was way too much of a hassle. So, I waited patiently for a lovely opportunity to arise. I now live in a house where there is room for my own studio! This has changed my life completely. I now utilize my bedroom for sleep and relaxation only. Personally, this was absolutely necessary for my sanity. I am sleeping better, feeling less anxious, and just overall much happier.
You’ve heard this before, but I can’t stress it enough – you create your own happiness. No one else will create it for you. Make the changes that are in your control to achieve this happiness. Its always worth it. For me, this was as simple as making a space for myself. That wont be true for everyone, but if you’re feeling like there isn’t a place for you to truly relax then it may be as simple as that. This place doesn’t need to even be a bedroom (though I find it to be the most convenient). It can be a bench over looking the river, or a section in the library that is extra quiet. Whatever it is – find it. Hold onto it. Utilize it. Find your oasis, and watch your anxieties melt away.
