The Magic Oil

Let’s talk about coconut oil. Oh, yeah. If you know me, you know that I pretty much offer up coconut oil as a remedy to all problems. In my eyes, it’s a magical serum. It can be used for so many things. My mind still gets blown the more I learn about it. Coco oil can prevent heart disease, and high blood pressure. Cures UTI infections, protects liver, reduces inflammation and is used as a cancer prevention and treatment. It boosts your immune system, improves brain function, helps your tummy, clears up your skin, whitens your teeth, and it’s fantastic to cook with. From my understanding the crazy good benefits come from the MCFAs that coconut oil contains. That stands for medium-chain fatty acids. Mostly because these fats aren’t stored for long but rather turned into energy almost immediately. The good kind of fats!

The way I use coconut oil the most is on my skin, teeth and to cook with. So everything. Cooking is self explanatory. Substitute it for any oil or butter usage. What is funny is that I didn’t like cooking with coconut oil at first. It took me a while to truly like it, because I thought it made everything taste like coconut. After a while, I stopped even noticing the taste. I primarily use it now when cooking and love it! It’s even an excellent coffee creamer for a extra boost of energy.

If you weren’t aware coconut oil is an amazing teeth whitener. It is officially called ‘oil pulling’, and there are lots of benefits to doing it. It prevents gum disease, tooth decay, and clears your mouth of bacteria. It’s kind of weird to get used to oil pulling, and this can vary by temperature. If you live in warm climate or it’s summer time, your coconut oil will likely be liquid. When that is the case I literally just take a sip out of the jar (haha) and swish it around, then spit it out. If it’s cold, your coconut oil will solidify. I just then take a spoonful of it and chew it until it’s warmed into liquid. I try to do this 3X a week for 15-20 minutes at a time. I highly recommend it! You can also put a little toothpaste in your mouth prior so it has a taste. I personally love the taste of coconut oil, but as I said before it took a little to aquire this love.

As for my skin… I put that shit everywhere. The second I get out of the shower I just lather up in it, and wait 10 minutes before putting clothes on. It helps me retain my tan (if I have one) for so much longer. Coconut oil is the best moisturizer around. It’s also great for shaving cream and razor burn prevention/treatment. I use it to take off make up and lighten dark circles under my eyes. I know people that use it in their hair as well for a scalp treatment – my hair is too oily to do this, but if you have thick/dry hair it would be perfect for you.

If you haven’t caught on yet, I use coconut oil for everything. It’s my favorite beauty, and health secret. And it’s so simple, which is my favorite part. You always want to get (extra) virgin coconut oil. This is super important! Many coconut oils are bleached, over heated, and processed. No thank you! You can find it just about anywhere, but for high quality I think Whole Foods, or New Seasons has a great selection. It’s affordable as well, and lasts forever (a little goes a long way). I have also found great ones at TJMAXX and Trader Joes. Anyways, go get yourself some, and give your body what it needs! You’ll be super stoked on it, I promise!
